I can vouch for Art's landing gear method. After seeing how well his held up & not wanting a more complex landing gear that required heavy-duty welding; I built the landing gear for my 1/3 scale Pup the same way Art's is done. Check out the photo on the web link Art has sent. You'll see a photo of the gear. In the middle of the axle is a piece of brass tube that captures a generous solder joint between the axle & the fixed cross piece. You'll want to make axle guide slots at the outer landing gear legs. Put your bungees around the ends & you're good to go.
The big solder joint in the middle of the axle takes all the side load & bending loads, so you do want to make it a good one. I used this same method on a retro-fit of the gear on my 1/4 scale pup as well.
