He just seems to be assuming based on similar control layouts. From a second look at the vid it's not 100% the same, the mg fire is like the Tamiya and the engine starts when the tx is turned on. It looks like its operating in a mode two (?) style. Looking at it you could easily assign movement to the right stick and other functions to the left.
