So do you want RC Universe to become just a dormant archive of old posts?

Five stars for that post.

If we limited all threads to topics never covered before, the site would dry up & go away due to lack of new activity.!
I can look at this from both sides of the page. Engine cleaning (removing castor varnish) has been brought up time and time again.. I have probably read 50 posts in the last year pertaining to the subject. In each of those posts, the replies included the Antifreeze bath in a crockpot and Dawn Power Dissolver being the top two answers. Someone new to the site asking the question is a no brainer - not everyone understands there is a search function on the forum. I would expect a seasoned user to be aware of the search function and try using it before starting a new thread asking a question that has been asked many times before. I am not faulting anyone here, just stating my opinion/observations. I will go on to say that the search function on this forum is not the most ideal (its a Beta!) function as it rarely (at least for me) ever finds current or more-current posts. I've searched for my own threads/posts using the search of which I used the exact title of the post or several keywords I used in my post and the search never finds them (mind you, posts I've created within the last 3 months). In some situations, I've had to go sifting through page after page of threads to find the thread/post I was looking for. Does it work well most of the time? I think so, but only if you're not real specific of the search criteria.

I will go on to say that faulting another member for suggesting the use of the search function is not right or fair, especially for a moderator. AFAIC, Moderators are moderators for a reason. They should be knowledgeable, helpful, and keep the forums in civil order. They should not fault members for making suggestions that are in reasonable taste. I believe Altered1 to be reasonable for his statement, mainly because I myself get tired of reading the same questions asked over and over again only in different threads. I do a search before posting a question as to ensure I'm not asking a question thats already been asked. I word my search string a few different ways and if no results are found answering the question I have, I will post a new thread about it. I'm not 100% perfect, so sometimes I duplicate some questions but I try as hard as I can not to.

Again, I'm not trying to fault anyone here, just speaking my mind a little. I think we all deserve a little respect as I feel that most of the users that post here are knowledgeable and I'm very happy that so many are willing to share their experience.

Now back to the subject, I myself have used Dawn Power Dissolver with satisfactory results but have not tried the crockpot bath in antifreeze for fear of turning my beautiful engines black (most of my engines aren't made anymore).
