The trims shouldn't matter, but the stick itself isn't self-centering unless you bought the kit or had them do it (if you purchased from Horizon). What happens with me is, if the left stick is up or down or I accidentally move it up or down before I push the right stick to start, then it's choosing from the configuration menu.

I couldn't figure out why the LEDs would be lit on startup until I realized what I was doing wrong.
