RE: Swoose Build
Hi Gene,
I am enjoying your build. It's great to see how you've addressed some design issues and applied your improvements to the building process. As you have pointed out the wing center is very weak as designed. Mine broke on the third flight, fortunately it held together well enough to land it. I had to cut into the wing bottom and add plywood spar doublers. Once that was done the wing would hold up well during spins.
The rudder is massively effective on this plane if you build it with the plan dihedral. The ailerons would yaw mine a little but the rudder would cause it to tuck its nose down and turn very hard.
On mine the nose was extended one inch forward of the plans. I'd read that they tend to be tail heavy as designed for a seaplane. For mine which was a land plane version I needn't have extended the nose because it ended up nose heavy.
Keep the post and pictures coming. Best regards, Lou.
