The ideal pond size is 600x300, or about 5 acres if it is oval. We usually look for a 6 acre pond as most are not perfectly oval or rectangular.
Figure that the course (lane 1) is 330 by 70, so if only one boat was running you could use a pond that was about 420 by 120 feet.
As you add lanes, the pond must get bigger.

Figure 50 to 70 feet for "lanes". That adds 100 to 140 feet to the 70 foot course (170 to 210 feet wide and 430 to 470 feet long).
Move this 50 feet from shore and you have about 600 by 300 feet.

If you never intend for more than one or two boats at a time, you can get by with much less.

BTW: I am in Utica, so Taberg would be very close (30 miles +-)...
