It's fun to buy on Ebay, but a lonely man can lose control... Don't ask! However, I am OK now since paypal cut me off it makes it much more difficult to use ebay and I have run out of room for more stuff anyway. Plus I have a girl friend now. A very tolerant girl friend. LOL.
Yes, I went with Lustrekote missile red. It seems like an exact match for the true red monocote on the DR1, plus it is fuel proof. The Dubro wheels took it very nicely. They don't look painted, they look like they were molded out of red plastic. The cowl, which is fiberglass, was frustrating, despite the fact that I cleaned it up real good before painting it. It looks OK, and is a good match. Someday maybe you'll see it. When I was a kid, whatever I built I would shoot with the cheapest spray paint I could buy and then coat it with Lustrekote clear to fuel proof it, and that seemed to work fine. Does Rustoleum need to be fuel proofed or is it OK alone?
I have an OS 91 story too. I bought my one and only from an older modeler who is no longer flying for 100 dollars. I bought it for my full sized Mud Duck. It started easily and seemed to be OK, but on the first flight it quit and the then extremely nose heavy Duck came down hard and required repairs. results here:
