Everybody is entitled to their opinion. Part of the Duck's appeal to me is the ''OMG! What the heck is that thing??'' reaction from fellow pilots at the field. I love it for its oddballness. I feel kind of like it's kin... I dream big. I want to paint it in warbird camo, put a duck beak with shark teeth on the nose (ala' WarHawk), add a mean duck pilot figure, stars and bars and the designation ''D 40 WarDuck.'' Then I want to fly it at Warbirds over Delaware. LMAO!!
Thanks for the info on the painting process you use. For me, that is kind of ''above and beyond.'' But I can certainly admire people who do what you do. I'm not trying to win any prizes, and I don't much care what other people think about me and my stuff. As long as it works for me, good enough, by definition, is good enough.

Ahh, I'm just picking on you all in good fun.

My wife wants to see the pictures of it when you turn it in to a D-40 Warduck.

I'm just jealous I don't have anything that ugly in my hanger.

But then again you don't have to worry about bird strikes because no bird will come close to you with that thing. (Except for those Turkey Vultures- they'll mate with anything.)
Are you trying to say I over do the painting methods? Who me?

Yes that's one of my "hang ups," I'm too much of a perfectionist and sometimes it bites me in the butt.
Anyway, I still haven't test flown the my DVII yet even though I'm all charged up and ready to go. In Oswego and Onondaga the winds are up to 15mph and variable. They've been threatening a cold front and rain for the past 2 days. Sunday is supposed to be real nice, and winds are predicted to be only going up to 5-7mph or so. I'll try for a Sunday flight.
Winds up to 8mph I will fly the DVII as long there are no crosswinds at the field. I try to avoid wing dips and have it threaten to do cartwheels on me because I fought a crosswind, so I'm picky on the wind conditions. (That's why my 4 year old plane somewhat still looks new with no damage I think.)
Let us know how it went in Jamestown Rick. My spare cowl and dummy engine came in the mail. The engine looked if someone in China jumped up and down on the package because one of the dummy valve spring details was knocked off of it and it had a crease on the bottom flat part that sits on the cowl. But with a lille heat from my hair dryer, I worked the crease out with my fingers, and I CA glued the fake valve spring and rocker arm back on. [8D]
Looks as if it never broke now. The dummy exhaust pipe had no damage from the package. (weired)
When I start the rebuild and modification thread on this plane, I'll try and remove my other dummy from the old cowl. I'm figuring a little heat from the inside- facing where the dummy engine sits will loosen the CA enough I should be able to reuse it. But if not and some how I screw it up, I at least have a spare on hand.
My cowl I haven't looked at it yet, ( It came today in a separate package) I'm hoping it isn't busted up from the shipping. If it is, I'll have to call the people back and see if they will take it back and replace it with another one. My wife got the mail today, and she's still out running around. So here I sit typing this response and waiting for my wife to get back from doing errands. When she does I'll take a look at the cowl.
Glad things are going good for you Ramboman! How's it coming along so far?
Pete
