RE: Hangar 9 Fokker DVII
Yeeeee Hawwwwwww !!!! Put about 5 flights on my DVIIyesterday in almoste perfect conditions. Light breeze out of the NNE (a tad of a quartering headwind) and temps were in the low 90's to high 80"s. What a wonderful day for flying. Iwish Ihad gotten their earlier but, the forecast had rain in it. As it turned out, they lied again. Anyway, I got the engine tuning and baffling issues worked out and it's doing a fantastic job. My little FA-80 is turning a 14x6 Zinger Pro at 9200 rpm and all is well in the heat dept. I grabbed the spinner nut after landing and it was just a tad above ambient. I've got a very nice idle near 2000 rpm and she barely wants to move from a dead stop at that setting. She idles so quiet with the turbo header it's difficult to hear it running when she's more than 10 feet away.. I LOVE this combo and having loads of fun with it. It always draws compliments at the field.
I'm having a bit of trouble keeping the covering on her though. I think this ARF sat on the shelf for a long time and some of the glue on the back of the covering is starting to turn loose ...especially on the bottom of the lower wings. Ihad to make a patch on the inboard end of the righth wing because it began peeling away.
I added some additional protection on the lower wing tips to prevent scuffing when they drag on the concrete. Hopefully, this method will work.
I think she's ready to show her stuff at our club's 50th anniversary arishow on Sept. 30. I was practicing a few "airshow" maneuvers yesterday that should work just fine. Nothing fancy, just showing what these birds could typically do.
