Finally managed to get the red paint matched on the Hawk
Two reasons I am repainting, one the carf stuff is not fuel proof you only have to buff with dry cloth and red comes off and secondly the main reason the paint scheme not been done right in the first place! plus I get rid of the mold line... ok 3 reasons.
The red has prooved to be not easy as anyone who paints will tell you. The CARF Display is a VERY bright red and typically bright reds are very translucent which means the base coat does matter. Well I usually use a Ti Green 2k primer which is very good but even in the pic this was tinted by 10% white 2k! you can tell the difference especially when you take it out of the sunlight. The right hand side has white primer which makes a huge difference. The guys at paints4u.com have spent some time on this finally having to manually mix taking out lots of orange and using a lot of very bright red tint! The small peice on the right is original red (cut out when fitting air scoops)
Second pic is top of nose which has just been redone, but it had light green Ti primer and you can tell the difference so this bit being rubbed down and done with white 2k primer before the red, then it will be exact match!
Also first time I have had 2k through my SATA mini jet 4 that I recently brought ... well impressed how it lays the paint on, pleased I brought it!
