The size of kits you intend to build will help dictate your layout. Small kits can be done on a small bench against a wall while giant scale kits are easier on a bigger table located so you have access to all sides. The bigger you intend to build the more "free" area you will need to move things around. I would put the bench where you want it then place everything around that. Just my 2 cents.
