RE: cheapest easiest to build warbird plane
I don't want to dog the NWHT kits or the previous poster, but if you're used to building "stick built" models, the NWHT line is not easy. I built the 85" Corsair and ran into a lot of building techniques I had never tried before. It sure took a lot more than the advertised 25 hours to build it. I am sure a second NWHT plane would go much easier, but I wouldn't build another because these kits lack a lot in the scale department and I didn't particularly like the foam sheeting process. Also, you have to do quite a bit of "on the fly" engineering with these kits, such as the simple things like mounting switches, mounting servos, running control linkage. There is no instruction manual with these kits. Hopefully the new Devine kits will have instruction manual with them with lots of pictures.
I built the Great Planes .40 size F4U and it was a somewhat quick build and was fun to build, but here again, it's not scale, it's sport scale. Sure flies good though.
