Default using e-trex gps to record speed

I used the e-trex gps mounted inside the plane to see what kind of speed my plane was capable of, results were surprising. my plane is a scratch built ugly stick type airplane with a magnum 46 engine, not a speed plane by a long shot. The best speed recorded was 122 mph, to me , it looked like it was doing maybe 80-90 mph. Has any one else used a small gps unit to check speeds ?
