My opinion for 40/60 planes with torque rods:
pattern/racer/scale => torque rods
3D => wing-mounted servos

Cons for torque rods:
space inside fuse, installation of torque rods

Pros for torque rods:
cleaner aerodynamics, scale realism, lower moment of inertia for roll rate.
