RE: Illusion Build
Ed,
One thing I did on a recent Tipo build was to follow the build instructions and use one screw up front for the wing and two in the back. However, because of the curvature and thickness of the wing at the LE I found out that it's possible to actually over tighten the wing and have the hardwood dowel exit the top of the wing near the mount plate. This doesn't happen at the TE as the dowels are captured by the flush TE with the mounting blocks and the thin ply plate on the bottom which prevents over entry of the bolts.
In short, I no longer plan to mount my foam wings like that if I don't need to. I'll use the dual dowel approach on the wing LE with a 1/8" ply plate at the fuse junction. On the backside of the glass you can also install a couple of squares or rings of ply to anchor the dowels. Many don't like the dowels but they also make for a faster wing mount.
Just wanted to relay that experience. The last thing we want is to have a detached wing from the fuse of a just finished build...
