RE: Great Planes Super Chipmunk EP arf
Took mine out today for her maiden. The weather hasn't been cooperative with temps in the teens or low twenties. Today was a bit warmer, mid 20's and 7mph winds. After a good range check I lined her up into the wind and throttled up. She tracked straight and lifted off rather abruptly and took a quick right. I let it climb to a safe altitude while holding in left aileron until I could give it some left aileron and down trim. Once trimmed for level flight at about 1/2 throttle she tracked nicely, holding it's course.
It has a nice cruising speed at about 1/2 throttle and handles a bit mushy on low rates (set up as the manual) It makes big loops and long slowwwww rolls on low rates but when on high rates she does nice tight loops and quicker rolls.
My first landing attempt she did a humpty bump and was too long so I took her around again. the second attempt was a little better but still long so the third time around I throttled back and about a foot off the ground I killed the throttle and she she slipped right in. On taxi back she nosed over when the wind pushed her tail up.
After assisting another flier with his plane I put in a fresh battery and nothing would work.
Once home I plugged in a fresh Lipo and my receiver didn't bind. I rebound the receiver and all was ok.
Just as I got the rx bound my tx started beeping. low battery!!
Good thing it happened then and not during a flight!
Fair skies and light winds.
