Anxious to see how you make out with the 4 bladed prop. I have a DA 85 and am going to build a Ziroli P-47. Like you I don't really want to drop 500.00 for a Solo.. Keep us up to date on an option for the 85.
I am also watching your elevator set up closely. Only thing I am concerned with is the lack of independant adjustability, if one side is the slightest bit off any deflection input up or down is going to cause the plane to roll. I am going to try to enclose all linkages on my build and I am weighing out the best way to do the elevators and rudder. I have the flaps and ailerons figured out but will wait to see how you make out with your set up. I am also concerned about safety versus esthetics. I wouldn't want the elevators to fail on a 40lb plane...
