RE: AMA emails on Drones/Right to Fly
These are just my thoughts on this issue. Are FPV flyers a danger to anyone? I really doubt they pose more of a risk to the general public than any other activities that we could be engaged in. The problem is "drones" (which, to the media and therefore the general public, is any aircraft not carrying a person) are a hot topic, and a "buzz word," in the media. Whether or not they pose a real threat, if the media decides they do then the general public will say they do. Until now it has been in the governments best interest to not regulate us as regulation is expensive, and no one in the gov. is stupid enough to spend that kind of money when the public/media doesn't care. Now with the medias concentration on drones it will only take one big story pointing out our potential for harm to John Q. Public for it to become a raging issue, and since the vast majority of the country doesn't care one bit about our hobby (toys to them) there will be no real defense against the media running all over us. Like it or not FPV has more potential than any other aspect of our hobby to put us at the head of the "drone" debate.
