I am not familiar with the 4* so can't answer all of your questions.
On my GP Super Sportster I had to laminate some plywood together to make a spacer to go between the engine mount and firewall. This moved the engine forward enough to clear the front of the plane. This would probably be easier than modifying the plane. Don't forget to fuel proof it.
