I say go for it! Get the Extra and have a blast! Then get the glue and covering and replacement parts out and have a blast fixing the Extra. All kidding aside, the advice already given here is good stuff. If you want an Extra, get one, but get HELP with it, and it will be fun to fly for a long time.
