ORIGINAL: wallace.tharp Dr: Thanks so much for the rapid reply. Great info
Many thanks
I am trying not to buy too expensive of a esc &motor cobo because it's going in a HN 9 40 cub on floats and could well get dunked!!!
Wallace: I had a look at: Hangar 9 Piper J-3 Cub 40 -
http://www.hangar-9.com/Products/Def...ProdID=HAN4000
-Wingspan: 80 in / 2.03m; Flying Weight: 6.75–7.5 lb / 3–3.4 kg

Hangar 9 themselves suggest:E-Flite Power 46, 670Kv, with 13x8 prop;motor is290g, 5055 -size on external dimension (& has 4020 stator)
http://www.hangar-9.com/Products/RelatedParts.aspx?ProdID=HAN4000&Category=Comp letion%20Guides&SubCategory
-I would think any 30-size motor, like Gens Ace 37mm external diam (e.g. Gens Ace 3744 or 3747) would be too small for this plane.
The plane weighs ~3.2kg, andis relatively slow flying -would a 60-size motor (in IC equivalent terms) be suitable ..? -Hangar 9 of course, suggest the E-Flite Power 46-which is supposed to be equivalent to an IC 46 motor.

So: We are looking at a motor with 50mm external diam, ~300g, and has 4020 stator. See:

For a motor of about the same Kv asE-Flite 46: I suggest: Turnigy SK3 5045-660kv, 280g; HYPERION Z4020 12T 660KV (same motors internally)

If you want to use a larger prop, go for lower Kv: e.g. Turnigy SK3 5045-500kv; HYPERION Z4020 16T 504KV -maybe HackerA50-14 XS V2, Kv 564
If you want to use a smaller prop, then use higher Kv: HYPERION Z4020 10T 748 KV;LiPolice / Foxy C4020/10 755 Kv; or HYPERION Z4020 8T 915KV

If you want more power, then use a larger motorlike: HackerA50-12 S V2, Kv 492, 345g;or HYPERION Z4025 12T 486KV; BOOST 60, Kv 490
or one with higher Kv for a smaller prop: HYPERION Z4025 10T 570KV; BMI SPITZ 46, Kv 580

-JUST AN IDEA: WHY NOT LOOK AT THE: Tacon Big Foot 46 (670KV) ?

http://www.hobbypartz.com/96m605-bigfoot46-4020-670kv.html
-This is a very similarmotor (i.e. almostidentical specs) as the E-Flite 46, and only costs $45.00from Hobbypartz ...

There is also the: GForce G46 (5055) , KV600, 295g -worth considering, only $45

Hope this helps ...
