It is well worth doing the conversion. The cdi will give more mid range power, a lower idle (around 1600 rpm) and use about half the fuel.

The APC 19 X 11 works well on the 170 cdi.

Definitely do not run low oil as the factory cdi's are the only engines designed to run low oil.
