RE: YS 170 BREAKING IN
apereira is correct
here are a few tips from Me.
The pump is the most important adjustment.
If it`s running hot on break in, Most likely you are lean on the bottom and rich on the top.
If your engine is not stumbling on the low end to mid range throttle advance, turn the pump out 1/4 turn at a time first before you adjust the high speed needle.
The pump is very important and has to run as rich as possible or you will wear it pematurely. the pump is the first adjustment ,and the heart of the setting.
Engine stumble will break your plug ceramic, and prematurely wear the Cap and wire to the module , also slip the spinner backplate on the thrust washer and ruin the spinner and thrustwasher,
If the spark is weak , Or plug is bad, plug cap is loose, pump is too lean, Ignition box faulty, or the high needle open less than one turn. after break in
the Engine will run hot!
Baffling helps but after setting the engine right ,you won`t need the baffling. it will run as cool as the non cdi version If you try to set it uptoo lean it runs Hot.
It will fool you because it will perform fine in the air But vapor lock on the ground on cool down.
Make sure the plug wire does not rub the fire wall , protect it with foam tape ,and secure it to the intake tube so it does not whip around and it will last longer
