Does volume matter or is it something in the internal shape ?
Im making up a rather large muffler now
out of an aluminium coke can
and its quite thin and light
if that fails Ive got a steel tin the same volume, I will try
I machine a ring that goes all the way around the circumference and clamps around it , then bolts to the exhaust
I also JB weld epoxy it ,
The JB can last , not all the time though
exhausts are very difficult subjects to get right , too much heat and vibes
I you are talking about a four cycle engine the exhaust design isn't very important. Just make sure it's not overly restrictive to flow. In the world of two cycle engines and expansion chambers it a real art and is rocket science. Read a copy of "Two Stroke Tuners Guide" by Gordon Jennings. It will blow your mind.
Cheers,
Bill
