ORIGINAL: SJN
Thanks for the tips guys.
I let it soak overnight in clean fuel, and I could just brush off most of te brown staining from the parts
So the bearings are fine, the cam parts and crank shaft is now a nice gray color. Its all cleaned up,oiled and assembled again ready for use
Compression is awesome, and the valves are 110% airtight
The two screws holding the rocker box cover where not original and not even the same type and too long, so the cover could not be tightned.
Found 2 nice stainless screws, and shortened them.
I have had very good luck using lacquer thinner to clean my engines. I know about the antifreeze/crockpot technique but have never needed it. Just a thought.
Cheers,
Bill
