Build update #4
Well all she is all but done!!! The control surfaces are on, connected and centered. The dummy engine cowls are painted and on, although I am not a painter. The don't look great, just "OK". Which is ok, because that gives it character!
The tail wheel bracket was easier than I expected and is on, I think the bracket looks pretty good. With all three wheels on it it looks like it is setup for "backwoods" flying!
I can't begin to tell how much fun this kit has been! I even did a "test" taxi with out the wing in my living room. A couple of things became very obvious. First I need to work a little bit more on the main wheel shafts, they are still a little too snug. They roll, but only with more thrust than I would like. The second thing is, that Ramfire 300 may be just a "bit" overkill in this plane! But that is okay, this way it *should* be able to "putt" around the sky at 1/4 throttle, give or or take a little!
I've also decided t use some carbon fibre rods in place of the dowel rods for the wing tie down. So tomorrow I replace the dowel rods with carbon fibre and verify/adjust the balance/CG and she will be ready for her maiden! I plane of having it video tape so expect to see it up here before too long!
Enjoy the pictures! (I will have to upload from my PC after I reduce their size!)
Update.......Final flying weight is 7.6oz's......More info coming soon!
Thanks,
Bill
