Default RE: Let's meet the new guys!

I'm not sure what qualifies as "new", but what the heck.

I'm 33, and working at a code slinger for hire in DC (read computer programmer).

I started flying when I was around 14, and flew though out school. Went to RPI to major in Electrical Engineering. Turns out, the school has (or had) an RC club that owned a small selection of aircraft and provided free fuel to students. I started doing flight instruction at this time, since there were only 3 guys who were competent enough to fly with out help, and I found I have fun doing instruction most of the time. Due to lack of money and time, a couple of moves and getting married I dropped out of the hobby for a while.

Then, my father (who never flew, but was really supportive when I started) surprised me a few years back when a big box showed up at my door via Fedex from Tower Hobbies. Turned out to be a trainer/radio/engine combo. So I put it together (taking almost a year to find the time) and discovered that it does come back like riding a bike.

I also discovered that RC Combat was now an organized event with it's own SIG and recognized by the AMA, and that there were a couple of combat pilots in my local club. I've been hooked on flying Combat since then, and it turns out I'm not half bad at it either .

I also started doing flight instruction again, and found that it's still as much fun as it was. I apparently missed the meeting when they were looking for someone to take over the flight training program at my club, so I got the job.
