What do I do with that crazy cutout tray and half formers for the nose below the cockpit? Is it structural? I'm done now except for the component instal on that tray (first jet). I could certainly hysol it into the nose and stick the components on it willy nilly but maybe I should use a fresh piece of ply and do my own layout. Should it mate to a bulkhead or the nose gear formwork or can it sit in the middle on its own, kind of scratching my head here, thanks.
You are talking about the equipment tray right? If I had to do another Hawk, I would probably still use the tray provided but would spend more time to mount it so it would be a little easier to remove. You will definitely have to remove it at one time or another to get to something. As far as positioning, mine is all the way back butted up against the wing dowel holes. I have a Cheetah, 2 2300 A123 RX packs up front on either side of the nosewheel mounts, a Skymaster cockpit. I initially mounted my ECU pack on the cockpit floor in front of the equipment tray and it was way nose heavy. I had to move it above the fuel tank where I have two large and one small air tank.
