RE: Eindecker EIII
Here are pictures of the last few items needed for flight.......
tank is in - cowl is on - battery & throttle servo installed and adjusted.
Loaded her up in the van and headed out to the flying field!
Put her together, fueled her up and then the engine coughed to life. It hadn't been run for 3 years or so at least. The engine is a Zenoah 445 with an exhaust flange and muffler torn away from the forward jug.......it was crashed on 1/3 scale Nieuport 17 when the radio apparently went into failsafe.......this was the engine that I flew my old 1/3 scale Eindecker (the one with wing warping and a full flying stab) The engine ran fine......prop was a Zinger 26x8.....performance was adequate......plenty for sport flying, but not much vertical.
Video was shot, but we cannot download it yet.......hope to have something in a couple of days.
A proper flight report and some stills from the first flight will follow when time allows.
oh, by the way........balance is on the wing tube without any added nose weight........weight is 40 pounds......if the other muffler could have been attached it would have weighted 40 lbs and 12 ozs.
