Iguess the lack of available parts for the bits that are really hard to make is a factor.
Roller chain is great stuff but without a mill/lathe its hard to make the sprockets and drive wheels look anything like their real life counterparts.
The chain is a reasonable facisimile of tank track to my mind by itself - more so than conveyor belt or similar. Door hinges do a reasonable job but Im not sure how you find sprockets to fit it. Plus you can easily attach things to roller chain if you so wish,.
But the weight of it is a killer - especially for a broad tracked tank like a tiger or something.
