Result of tests this weekend found that the Hip extender worked but was a little awkward. The last test of the day was to clip the iPhone with the dongle facing upwards to a post on a starting table. As can be seen, there are no dropouts at extremes of the field. This lead me to purchase Jaybird Freedom earbuds, which allow the audio from the iPhone to be wirelessly transmitted to me. I realize there may be some concerns operating a Bluetooth simultaneously, but so far in the shop and driveway the datalink has not been effected. More on this approach after another flight session.
