The struts are steel covered with fiberglass and filler (autobody type filler). I'm not sure that I understand your concern but if you are trying to elimiate the nuts and bolts holding the brackets I would not. The steel struts are not thick enough to be tapped and used in place of the nut (in my opinion). Although the bold and nut sizes are not true to scale they do replicate the full scale setup. It's held together the same way.
