This is a real tragedy and my prayers go out to his family and friends.
Could it have been avoided? We won't know until more details are available.
However, given the propensity our "busy-body" gov't has for knee-jerk reactions, don't be surprised if someone attempts to make helmets and body armor mandatory when flying. ....and I'm not joking.
