I'm doing the Lothar von Richtofen color scheme. But I'm taking a few liberties. Lothar was shot down mid-March 1918, and probably did not fly the Dr 1 with the balkenkreuz markings. But, because I like it (and it's going to be easier to paint) that's the way I'm painting it.
The maltese crosses are a lot of work. I figured out a method this last time, but it is not easy, especially over the fabric. I used my low stick shelf paper, template method, but still had a lot of touch up. Even using the airbrush and trying to go lightly. The Balkenkruez, should be no problem just hand painting. I just penciled them in and went after them with a brush on my Fokker DVII.
