You should look at what the manufacturer tells you the max charge rate is and not exceed it.
Most modern LiPo batteries will charge at 5C with no problem.
Charging at higher rates does shorten battery life.

Yes be CAREFUL with LiPos and LiIons they will explode and burn if abused
