RE: 3rd plane for my .40 from trainer
If anything I would put something together that you could use to "test and practice" new tricks without having to worry about too much. The 4*40 would be a good choice because its cheap and very easy to build, but it would probably still be a bit underpowered with the 40LA.
Both the 4*40 and *60 (or Venture) are floaters on landing, but they fly quite a bit different. My 40 (RIP) was quick and twitchy but you could pull it out of anything. The 60 (Venture) is a very stable and predictable acrobatic airplane. Both are fun for different reasons.
Actually if it were me I would sell the 40LA to someone that has problems with their cheap trainer motor, then buy a 46FX and put it on a quick twitchy plane, then go out and learn some new tricks. The difference in power between an LA and an FX is huge.. and if you add an Ultrathrust muffler to the FX...
