The new JR Venture
To COLE;
I'm glad you've got all that plank experience. But we're talking apples and oranges here.
There are several valid reasons for concern over a plastic motor mount in a helicopter. The most important one, IMO, is whether or not the mount will allow the motor to shift position ("flex", if you will) at all. This would be bad karma for the type of in-line start shaft system the venture has.
On the one hand, composites have come a long ways, but with the exception of graphite/carbon fiber cannot match the stiffness of metal. On the other hand, I know for a fact that this ship has been in development for quite some time. JR does not employ fools, and the Horizon guys supposedly have been flying it for some time as well.
Any new ship is going to have gremlins that even the most extensive factory testing will not uncover. While I certainly hope that engine flex is not one of them, I still have confidence that JR/Horizon will do whatever is necessary to fix whateve crops up.
It would seem that dial-indicating the clutch installation would be called for with this model. There are two extensive threads about this ship on RunRyder.
