As for the plastics... who knows?

I remember there were big concerns with 35mm cameras in the '80s when some of the pinion gears went plastic, such as whether they would hold up to high-speed motor drives and such. Again, there was panic when they went to composite lens mounts. These turned out to be okay. I personally like to see innovation if it proves worthy. If it doesn't work in this case, then it'll be another upgrade part, no big deal.
