An Airtronics/Sanwa MT-4 is an excellent low-latency radio with telemetry (voltage, speed/RPM, temperature). They usually sell for around $200 (or look for used) which isn't 'cheap'-cheap... but is cheap-for-what-you-get, and is way less than you can pay for high-end race radios.
