Wind
Ya, when I first started flying planes ( around 10 years ago) I was a little afraid of the wind but the guy who was teaching me to fly said, " just as well go fly, it's always windy ". I'll get that way with the heli's eventually but, I've only been at this for 8 or 9 months now and I didn't fly at all this past winter.
I've already flown planes when I've landed them vertically because I had enough head wind to do so, and I really get a kick out of it. My early experience with heli's is the wind actually effects things less, because your always on the sticks anyway. Where as with the planes once you get them trimmed out well enough they always fly pretty true.
If I get my servos and trims set up in time tonight after work I may take the Venture out and test hover it. I broke the engine in on a stand so it should be ready for prime time, I hope.
I've been flying the heck out of the RF G2 on the computer, which I think helps tremendously, especially since I'm the only heli pilot within 50+ miles.
The Venture:
My venture went together real well, I checked every nut, bolt, and bearing on it and everything was tight. I know some other people said they had problems with parts being loose, that was not the case with mine. I haven't had a chance to check blade tracking yet but will soon. The aluminum engine mount from the Ergo 30 fit perfectly and saved me from having to use the long bolts and lock nuts that came with the kit. The run out in the clutch appears to be very good no adjustment needed, but I'll know more after I fire it up. The blades were balanced nearly perfectly and I put no tape on them, I don't think I could get them any better. One thing I didn't care for was I noticed it's much harder to accurately check the rear rotor belt tension on this heli as apposed to my Ergos. As for frame strength, it feels just as stiff as my metal framed Ergos ( I have a 30 and 46 ), the question will be how does it hold up in a CRASH. And I'm sure I'll find out, in-fact, I went ahead and purchased the crash kit from heliproz when I ordered the heli. I've also noticed that many of the parts are interchangeable with my Ergos, with the exception of the frame and some rotor head parts they seem to use the same parts. Which in my opinion is a good thing.
That's all I know for now.
