To get a 90 Deg Retract unit to retract completely into the fuselage and also have a 5 deg forward angle when extended, and have a shorter more scale strut length, the entire unit needed to be mounted 1.5 inches further up into the fuselage, and mounted at a 5 Degree angle. (see diagrams).
- Remove the original Mounting plates and platform (See photo)
- Build new mounting box using Templates (see PDF)
- Mount front of Box to the rear of the Front Bulkhead after removing original Fixed Gear nose gear bearing
- Mount side and rear of Box to sides of well. (Subsequently I extended the box toward the bottom and used the existing double side wall to secure the Box with wood screws rather than the Blind Nuts mounted lower as shown).
- Being able to remove the mounting box gives future flexibility to make changes or repairs, if needed, easier.
I used the RoboStrut rather than the Kit version of the Nose Gear strut but the Kit version would work just as well, the length is about the same as the RoboStrut after it cut to its minimum length.
