Yesterday my 4 year old girl was "helping" me in the shop. I had just finished painting the cowl on the SNJ-5 I've been working on, and was washing my trusty Asturo detail spraygun in the sink. The predictable result was that a small piece went down the drain, which of course, renders the gun unusable
I began surfing the net to try and find a replacement part, but of course, my gun is an old discontinued model so no parts were to be found for it. That looked like the perfect excuse to upgrade from the Asturo to a Binks, a DeVilbiss, or some other high-end gun (I've wanted a Binks just like Dave Platt's since I saw it in his videos).
Everywhere I looked, current models are HVLP. So called "conventional" guns are becoming hard to come by. All of Binks' detail and touch-up guns are HVLP. So are all of DeVilbiss' -- and of course, all of the Asturos. Even the lesser-known brands all seem to be betting on HVLP at the expense of traditional technology.
Does this mean that our expensive compressors, hoses, fittings, etc, will need to be thrown out and replaced by turbines and HVLP guns? BTW, I ended up ordering an Iwata that promises to be pretty good -- and which will run off of my existing gear.
Cheers,
