A friend of mine swears by the v911...he has an inexpensive place that he buys from and haS about 3-4 of them all working great. I also think you should forget about the 3/3.5 channel units as they will mess you up with controls if you plan to go a bit more professional.
Just my opinion on the two helis you suggested...go for the v911
