I am well pleased with the "upgrade" I did by replacing the 20 carb with the 30 carb. I only had to lean the low needle about 1/16 of a turn and did not have to touch the high speed needle at all. Transition is much smoother and the drop to idle is instant. I am getting 8210 rpm at wot with a Falcon 16x8 prop. Idle is 1800.
Maybe this will help those that are having similar problems.
Maybe not.
When I can make an emergency repair from my parts box, it is great for a quick fix. It is not however the sound advice I would give to others as an "upgrade". Next thing you know people might start thinking that the DLE 20 is a great engine but you should replace the stock carb with the one from the 30 for better performance before your ever put it in an airplane.
Even if DLE doesn't know anything about engineering the people at Walbro do. They make a whole range of carb sizes so we can get the best metering with a certain displacement.
Practice vodo if you want, but, I bet your old carb could have been cleaned and rebuilt. You were just unable.
Yes a carb does have enternals that can fail, it is just very uncommon.
Please don't take this personally. It is just others are watching.
