I understand the last 24 as being for warbirds or probably any other plane that operates at high throttle settings, but your first line doesn't make sense.

yup i made a typo.... 16 oz for 3D style flying or 24 for wide open throttle flying style
Back in the day i used to go by glow fuel tank size ranges, but glow engines seem to burn fuel a lot faster so there's no relation to how a gasser burns fuel.... For example in my 50cc aerobats... i used to use a 24 ounce tanks, and would only use less than half a tank....well i i now use a 20 oz tank and still have about 1/2 a tank left after i land..IMO theres no need to carry the extra fuel/weight if not necessary, and now i spend less time fueling/draining my tanks
