At first glance this sounds like a great idea. My concerns would be how the car handles on a solid rubber tire. Running on a prepped smooth surface wouldn’t be a concern but a track with small imperfections such as cracks, bumps, or loose aggregate might make the car skip or something along those lines. Have you had any experiences with those conditions?
The track I currently run on is Tamiya America Raceway. There are a few guys that run the 1/12 RM01 out there but not many. The common statement is “if they made rubber tires for it I’d be out there”. People just aren’t excited about truing tires down and dealing with chasing the gearing. If these work well for racing it could be huge.
Also, I’m not sure if you’ve heard of the Speed Passion SP1 LM car. This is basically an ALMS body on a 1/10 pan car chassis (
http://www.speedpassion.net/us/lm1lemans.asp). There are a number of guys running it in the Midwest and having a blast with it. I’ve read a number of statements and questions that are similar to the 1/12 scale guys, “any plans for rubber tires or does anybody make rubber tires for it?”. This could be a great market for you as well. I just thought that would be worth mentioning.
Personally I’d like to see something like this on the market. I think there are enough people that would buy into it, providing it can be raced hard. I’d be interested in trying a set out if the offer is still open.
