With the 1221 it is easy to mistake which slot is the bind port or insert the battery plug wrong. I have a JR R1221 DSM2 receiver and the case should be the same as yours. With the JR label up and looking at the connector end, the bind port is the far-right vertical slot on the bottom row. The battery slots are on the top row of horizontal slots. The battery plug is inserted upside down, i.e., the plug visible contacts face downward.
