It may not damage it but it sure will stain it and it's heavy. automitive urethane paints are some of the best paints on the planet, spendy but you get what you pay for. No matter what you put on it it should be sanded and primed first, what do I know, I'm just an old experienced painter and still do some pretty nice work.
