I have the Super Stearman. I got it used with an OS 120 and it was adequate. Changed to an SPE 26 gasser and it was ok. I had both batteries as for forward as the would go. Above the gas tank. Later I pulled off the SPE 26 to use in another plane (Nieuport 28). I installed a Fuji 32B in the Stearman. It is a heavy engine relative to newer lighter engines like to DLE 30 or 35. But it has enough power to do the maneuvers I want to do. Total weight is now about 16.5 lbs. Does not float like it use to when lighter but just need to carry a little power on final. Take offs are no problems just ease in the power with full up elevators and ease off the elevators as speed increase, steadily increasing power, keeping straight with rudder. The Fuji is heavy enough that I had to move both batteries behind the wing to get the correct cg. I think a DLE 30 would be a perfect match. Lighter than the Fuji with more power.
