Today was a good day, the gremelan was flushed out and desposed of. When I got to the fueld I tried to get the engine to start, would not happen. So next we tested for spark, we were not getting a strong spark so I installed a new ignition module, my buddy had one new in the box for his DLE55. After the new ignition was installed it did start. Took a bit being this engine is finicky. Two turns with no choke, two flips with the choke, then no choke for about ten flips and she starts, throttle about 1/4. I am trying different starting procigures to see what works. The engine is running great and I got 5 -10min flights in. My bats only can take 50min of flight befor I need to charge.
This is the hardest engine I have ever had to start. But once it is broken in and I learn how to start it she should be good. I think she likes more throttle on start then all my other engines need. So now I will give her three or four flips with the choke closed at half throttle, then take the choke off and flip till she starts.
As fare as running and performance. I am running a Xoar 26x10 and the rpms are at 6400. At landing and shut down engine head temp way 180, maybe 40 less then the prototype (Angie my P-47), but I'm flying with no cowl.
I did not notice much diferance in flight performance from my EME120. The engine is very strong and she flies great in this frame. I'm taking it easy as I am still breaking her in but I did do some hovering and she hangs just fine, vertical is strong and this is where you see the diferance in the 120 and the biger prop. As for speed she felt as fast at full in the patturn. Vibration is more at idle and low rpms, at full she is smooth. The prototypes cockpit took a beating from the vibration and I am making changes for that. Overall the engine is very strong, but with the stock muffler she is louder then my EME and louder then the custom muffler I had in the prototype. I will take some db readings later in the test flying. I will contact TBM to see if they will replace the bad ignition!
Fule consumption on a ten min flight with moderat throttle use is about 8oz. Later I will do a ten min flight at full in the patturn to see max fuel use. I have 15 flights on this engine and need 40 for break in so maybe after ten more I will try the 4 blade prop and see how it performs compared to the two blader.
